SOADI would like to reintroduce Georgia Baum with her new title 7 Generations Gestational Diabetes Prevention Program coordinator as well as introduce her assistant, Krista Ruthven. This team is excited to take on the task of educating and creating awareness regarding Gestational Diabetes for the Indigenous families they affect and continuously promoting healthy lifestyle choices throughout the entirety of the pregnancy process and beyond.
As the website illustrates there is a lot of awesome resources and training available for pre-pregnancy, pregnancy as well as post pregnancy. An Elder will be made available for cultural teachings as requested! Look for upcoming dates and registrations for Front Line Worker’s Ontario-wide who work with Indigenous families at risk of developing Gestational Diabetes. These trainings are one day in length and are available to areas of Ontario; and are available by request.
Each participant will receive these items at the one day coaching event:
- Basic education around Gestational Diabetes, including risk factors, complications and treatment
- Facilitator Workbook with information
- Prevention/Management strategies
- 7 Generations Tool Kits for Aboriginal Women and their families at risk of developing Gestational Diabetes
